Bernard Hann, 83, also known as "Butch," residing in Efland, N.C., died peacefully with a smile on his face on Aug. 22, 2021, at the VA hospital in Durham after his battle with cancer.

Butch was born May 15, 1938, in Everett, Bedford County, Pa., the son of Russell Albert Hann and Minnie Clara (Foor) Hann.

Sgt. Hann served in the US Army as a mechanized mechanic from 1961 to 1969. His overseas tours included one year in Germany and one year in Vietnam. He also served at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Dix, N.J. and Fort Hood, Texas.

Butch's service awards included the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (1962 Cuban Missile Crisis), the Vietnam Service Medal, the Cold War Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal with two stars.

Butch was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post #8333 of Breezewood Pa..

He was a devoted husband, loving father and a wonderful friend to many others. He also loved spending time with family and friends, and loved the mountains, hunting and fishing, bowling and playing cards with friends and family. Butch stayed busy helping others within his church and the community.

Butch regularly attended the Hillsborough United Methodist Church in Hillsborough, N.C. and the Faith Assembly of God in Warforsdburg, Pa. He also attended services at the Lebanon United Methodist church in Mebane, N.C.

He is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Barbara Cappadona Hann, their daughter Lorraine Hann Glaum and her husband Charles, a sister Vyonne Hann Johnson and her husband Eugene, and four grandchildren; Victoria Clark, Danielle Smith, Michael and David Glaum, and six great grandchildren; Natalie, Donovan, Tyler, Jacob, Lucas, and Joey; and a nephew Jeffrey Hann, and niece Barbara Jean Whitsel and many other Pennsylvania cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his extended family in North Carolina: Carolyn Cappadona Donivan and husband Harry, Roy Cappadona and wife Kathleen, Charles Cappadona and wife Regina, Ginger Russell Cappadona, Susan Sowards Cappadona, and William Blanchfield.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Lucie Marie Hann, Shrock Hann, Wilfred Hann, Willard "Shorty" Hann, Thomas C. Hann and Mary Hann Reed. His great-granddaughter, Ariel also preceded him in death.

Butch's family and friends will hold a "celebration of life" at a date and place to be announced after Barbara Hann is able to travel.
