Dixmont - James Westley Erskine, 86, passed away October 4, 2021 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born on August 6, 1935 in Jackson, Maine, son of William and Lavon (Edminister) Erskine.

He was a woodsman all of his life, only retiring when health issues forced him to. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member and past Trail Master of the Dixmont Gold Crest Riders Snowmobile Club. He loved playing baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan, never missing a game if he could help it. He was an active man who never sat still.

He spent his free time camping, visiting the ocean, or attending a country or blue grass show. He loved all types of games, especially Skip-Bo. In his retirement, he thought this was the best way to start his day. In his later years he became a voracious reader, reading books about Maine, Westerns, or mysteries.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Lorraine (Leadbetter) Erskine, daughters; Julie Erskine, who took care of him with his wife for the past five years, Wanda and Melodee, his brother Robert Erskine, brother-in-law and Little Buddy John Leadbetter, sister-in-law Trixie Jewett, special nephew James Saban and his wife Amy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially Isaac Furran, his orange and gum partner.

He was predeceased by his parents, son Jason Erskine, brothers Lawrence, William (Roger), and Elton (Dick) Erskine and sisters Esther Winship, Eunice Norris, and Pauline Erskine.

James was a quiet man with a big heart and will be sadly missed by all that knew him. His family would like to thank all the people that took care of him allowing him to stay in his home, especially Dr. Charles Kriegel. At his request he will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date.
