Dixie was born and raised in Durham, NC and moved to Gastonia over 30 years ago. She was a member of Loray Baptist Church and loved to travel, shop, and spend time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and cats.
Dixie is survived by her son, Robert "Bobby" Carpenter, II; son-in-law, Larry Zeigler; daughter-in-law, Mary Whitener; step-daughter, Janet W. Dula; sisters-in-law, Edna Hoyle and Dalley Carpenter; granddaughter, Jennie Shidagis (John), Mike Carpenter, Chris Dula (Angie), Chris Zeigler (Carrie), Robbie Zeigler (Laurie); 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Jerry; and numerous friends and family in Durham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert "Buck" Carpenter; second husband, Tracy Whitener; daughter, Patricia Zeigler; step-son, William Whitener; step-son-in-law, Tony Dula; brothers, Charles, Baxter, and Speed Ashley; sister, Sue Ann Allen; and granddaughter, Renee Zeigler Bone.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm on Monday, October 11, 2021 at McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia.
A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm in Gaston Memorial Park with Richard C. Lewis, Jr. officiating.
