Bill Sayre was born in Bliss, Idaho in 1931. His childhood was spent moving around extensively, but his family settled San Francisco during World War II. He joined the Army after a semester of college and served in the Korean War.

After serving in Korea, he worked his way through college. He met his wife at a five-and-dime, where he was her boss and married her after three months of dating.

For many years Bill worked for the Dynavax division of Hewlett-Packard and then became a certified public accountant in self-practice. For the last nine years of his life, he was a partner in GMP Labeling in Sunnyvale where he reveled in working a few months on and off during the year traveling extensively in his free time.

Bill was father to three and grandfather to their three children. It would be difficult to find anyone who didn't like him. He has been described as the light of his family and the life of every party. He enjoyed going up to anyone taking pictures and placing bunny ears unannounced to amuse the photographer's subjects. He would talk to just about anyone. Loved telling jokes, good games of racquetball and poker, traveling, and of course the regular fishing trip.
