It is with deep sorrow that the family announce the death of Denis R.T. White on April 6, 2007 at Markham Stouffville Hospital, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a resident of Swan Lake Village in Markham, Ontario. He leaves his wife and best friend for 53 years, Peggy (nee Smith), his son Andrew and his wife Cathy (Adam and Lauren) of Aurora, daughter Margot Secord and her husband Graeme (Gillian, Neil and Gregory) of Newmarket and daughter-in­law Kim Stoll (Victoria and Laura) of Toronto. Norman White , husband of Kim and his second son, died in 1999. He will also be remembered by his brothers, and their families, William A.T. White in Ottawa, Professor Patrick C.T. White in Toronto and Charles E.T. White. (deceased). Denis was born on January 8, 1929 in Vernon, British Columbia, son of Elise and Captain Arthur E. White. He was a graduate of the University of British Columbia and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He had a distinguished career in business and volunteer work. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Canadian Institute of the Chartered Business Valuators (CICBV) and in 2002, was granted the Queens Jubilee Medal for his many years of volunteer work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) He worked for a number of Canadian corporations, including General Electric Canada Inc, Alcan Aluminum Ltd. and Imasco Ltd., holding increasingly important executive positions and served on a number of Corporate Boards. In the latter part of his career, he served as Vice President of Finance and then Senior Vice President and Director of Lake Ontario Cement Ltd.- - a major international cement and concrete producer. After his official retirement from this company, he spent 11 years as Executive Director of the CICBV and had his own consulting practice. He was also active in t he Condominium Corporation in which he and Peggy lived , holding the position of Secretary/Treasurer. His participation with the CNIB as a volunteer for 15 years was his passion. He was Chair of its Ontario Division and subsequently a National Director and Chair of the National Finance Committee. He was also active in Industry Associations and was President of the North American Society for Corporate Planning , Chairman of the Financial Executives Committee of the Portland Cement Association and a Life Member of the Financial Executives Institute. He published a number of articles and gave many speeches on financial and volunteer matters. Denis met Peggy in Vancouver, B.C. and they were married in Toronto in 1954. W hile his family was of paramount importance, he was an avid curler at the Granite Club in Toronto and golfer at York Downs Golf and Country Club in Unionville, Ontario. He had a great interest in wine and travel. H e was member of a number of Wine Societies and a dedicated collector of fine wines. He and Peggy traveled extensively all over the world both on wine tours and tours of exploration. The Funeral will be held at St. Philips-on­the-hill Anglican Church, Unionville , Ontario, located on Kennedy Road, just north of 16th Avenue in Unionville, Ontario at 2pm Thursday April 12, 2007. Visitation with the family will take place at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham, Ontario from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday April 11, 2007. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1929 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ont. M4G 3E8. After the funeral service, the family will host a reception at the York Downs Golf and Country Club, located on 16th Avenue between Warden Avenue and Kennedy Road, north side, in Unionville, Ontario. A private family internment will take place at a later date at the churchyard at St. Johns York Mills Anglican Church.
