Rube Thomas Acosta was best known throughout El Paso as Tom or, Tommy.

"If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." - 1 Peter 4:8-10

Tom graduated from Bel Air High School and attended Sul Ross University on a football scholarship before returning to his much loved hometown of El Paso.

He stood above the crowd at 6'6" tall, was always well-groomed, well-dressed, sported striking good-looks and thus, was a huge draw while bartending at the nightclub, Dallas, in his twenties, where co-workers and patrons were just as taken with his energy, engaging, gregarious personality, and sense of humor as they were his stature.

They were attributes that made him a perfect fit for a career in sales. He began selling cars in his late twenties before quickly transitioning to El Paso Freightliner and Horizon Thermo King. Highly successful, he was, at times, the highest seller of Freightliners in the western US and eventually became part owner before forming his own container resale company. Something he did until his death.

Always upbeat and on the go, Tommy was in his element when surrounded by people whether friends, family or, complete unknowns.

"Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy,
for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God's presence." - Proverbs 29:9-11

He placed a high value upon the company of others, was very generous, and made an effort to always be there for friends and family in times of need whether physically, emotionally or, financially.

Tom was an excellent cook and enjoyed wowing others with the delicacies he prepared. He was a connoisseur of movies and classic rock; someone who loved to open his home for large, elaborate parties and stray guests, which he did often.

At the going away party he threw for himself two weeks before his death, at a point when he had long been too weak to stand and wasn't expected to live more than a few more days, Tommy, mustered enough strength to wheel himself into the awaiting crowd at a high rate of speed while pumping his fist in the air - in the same manner and with the same vigor he had run onto the football field in his teens - to cheers and applause.

His wish to please, entertain and make others happy - a lifelong condition - was stronger than his feeble state, as he was determined to hold tight to his "Life of the Party" moniker to the end.

"The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." - Luke 18:27

Highly intelligent, Tommy could speak on any subject and kept himself well-informed. Watching the nightly news and Jeopardy, while completing the New York Times Crossword was a everyday endeavor beginning in his early twenties.

His presence among the crowd will be forever missed by those who knew him and even more who only encountered him at his home away from home, Hudson's Bar and Grill, where pictures and tributes to him will always remain.

He has joined his Cherished Parents in Heaven: Emma and Hector Acosta, and his Revered Grandmother, also, named Emma.

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." - John 14:3

Tom is survived by his Loving Wife: Yolanda Varela and Former Wife: Susan Conradi Gutierrez, his Beloved Children: Austin, Nicholas, and Shelby, his Highly Valued Grandchildren: Aliyah, Azalea, Aylai, Aries, Avian, and Aiden, and their Mothers: Shannon, Astrid and Nayelli.

His eight Treasured Brothers and Sisters: Christy Minjarez(Moises), Jerry Acosta(Adela), Mike Acosta(Debbie), Steve Acosta(Tara), Lori Ellis(Mark), Lynn Fernandez(Danny), Mark Acosta(Cecilia), and Georgia Diaz(Marco).
