Paul M. Curtis was born on October 12, 1924 in Vermillion, Kansas. The son of Floyd Towne Curtis and Nettie E (Mann) Curtis. He attended grade school and High School in Vermillion. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1942.
Paul enlisted in the Navy August 7, 1942 at 17 and trained as an aviation ordinance man. Paul was united in marriage to Susie E Sumner on January 5, 1945 prior to his deploying to the USS Sangamon as a turret gunner on an Avenger torpedo bomber. He earned many decoration including 2 awards of the Distinguished flying Cross and 4 Air Medals.
Paul worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department after the war, then returned to Vermillion to work with his farther on the Curtis Ranch. He moved to Arizona and worked as a heavy equipment operator in 1957, then moved to California in 1963 and was employed as an Inspector for the State of California Bridge Department until his retirement. Paul moved to Kerrville, Texas in the early 1980's where he was a member of VFW Post 1480 and the Kerrville American Legion.
Paul passed peacefully after a brief illness March 22, 2019 at his home in Hesperia, California at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Susie and his son Stephen Curtis of Apple Valley, California. He is survived by his son Terry Curtis of La Verne, California, Virginia Curtis of Apple Valley, California, his Grand-daughter Deanna Curtis Phillips of Apple Valley, California, his Grand-son Stephen P. Curtis of Camarillo, California.
