Callaway Green Heath was the son of (Rev) Jonas Blue Heath b. 1810 Cabell Co WV and his wife Margaret Preston Barrett b. 1809. He was born in Cabell County, WV and brought by his parents to Missouri when land became available. They settled in Tom Township, Benton Co MO where Milly's father also settled. Both parents knew each other well (Rev Jonas Blue Heath and John Holloway).
Callaway married Milly Ann Holloway (1833-1893) on 15 Nov 1852 in Santa Maria, CA. at her mothers home, but then returned back to Missouri. As a result of the Civil War they abandoned their MO home (going to Illinois) for a while, not returning back to it until 1872. Callaway and Milly Heath lived in Tom Twp, Benton Co MO prior to moving out to early California in 1887 and settling in the Cuyama Valley. Until 1880 the only way to reach it was to travel by river. In 1890 Callaway Green Heath made his way up this river, and pre-empted a quarter section a few miles south of the Caliente Spring. In 1894 the Wasioja post office was established and was served by stage out of Santa Maria, the trip taking two days each way. It was a 68 mile route with lots of rattlesnakes and no houses to stop at along the way. This is where Callaway and Milly chose to live.

A faded old letter was found dated 1905, written by Callaway Green Heath to his daughter Margaret Barrett (Heath) Richardson and granddaughter Milly. Written in teeny, tiny, beautiful script it said the following:

Calloway Green Heath
Died Dec 26, 1910
Myocarditis
Physician: W.T. Lucas, M.D.

Callaway Green Heath did marry a 2nd time. His first wife died Oct 1893 and he remarried in Santa Barbara Co. CA on 8 June 1897. I was a bit shocked to see who it was. His youngest brother Jonas Heath, Jr’s widow, Brunetta (Stewart) Heath had married an Overton Park back in Benton Co. MO in 1891. but the marriage did not work out and they divorced. Family said they ‘did not get along very well and he sent her back to Missouri. It was a short marriage.’She apparently went out to California because there is a marriage record for Brunetta (Stewart) (Heath) Parks to her first husbands older brother, Callaway Green Heath on 8 June 1897 in Santa Barbara County, At the time of this 3rd marriage for Brunetta, she would have been 52 and Callaway Green Heath age 67. This marriage also must not have worked out because she is back in Missouri by the 1900 census.
