Obituary for Al Smith Dickson
Al Smith Dickson was born July 20, 1941, in Keatchie Louisiana to George and Helen Dickson. He was raised in Nacogdoches Texas with his siblings Herbert Lee and Fayrene Dickson. Al went to E.J. Campbell High School where he was an outstanding student, senior class president, and captain of the football team. While in high school, Al was also a lifeguard, where he was praised in the Nacogdoches Newspaper for saving a young boy's life by CPR after he was found not breathing at the bottom of the neighborhood community pool. After high school, he then joined the military where he was stationed in Japan, the Philippines, and Korea.

Al was an Army veteran, loving father and husband. After serving in the military from 1959-1962, he and his first wife Era and eldest daughter Valerie moved to California. There Al and Era had two more children Keith and Ingrid. He then moved to the Bay Area where he met his second wife Merle. They became a blended family with children Alex and Darwin and had two daughters together, Lisa, and Helena. Al worked for the City of Oakland as a Telecom Supervisor for 20 years before retiring. While working and supporting his family, Al earned his AA degree from Merritt College, and took many courses at Cal State Hayward. He was a lifelong learner. He was a State certified Tax Preparer for multiple decades, and even became a certified COVID-19 Contact Tracer in May 2020. Al lived a full life and will be remembered by all his family and friends for his love, support, and hilarious stories.

Al passed away October 5, 2021, and is survived by his loving partner Linda Luckett, children Valerie, Keith, Ingrid, Alex, Lisa, and Helena, and grandchildren Tiana, Jazmyn, Daniel, Sinclair, Chanise, Darryl, Jacina, and Jordan, and great-grandchildren Aiden, Serenity, Aliza, Saniyah, De'Anah, Darryl Jr., Ta'Ron, and Ta'Riyah, and an abundance of loved nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
