Dexter served in the US Army during WWII. He was a long time area electrical contractor and owned and operated Van Hoozen Electric.
Dexter was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club of St. Germain, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge in Woodstock, Ill. He was on the Alden-Hebron School Board for 12 years and served as president for eight years, Northland Pines School Board Advisory Committee, Hebron Businessman's Association. Dexter liked to give back by donating blood at blood drives achieving the "gallon club," doing charitable work at local churches and the St. Germain Golf Club.
Dexter is survived by his wife of 73 years: Joan; sons: Allen of Green Valley, Ariz. Bruce of St. Germain; sister: Helen Rhodes of Stockton, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edward.
