Walter Wallace Wheeler, 86 years old

Walter Wallace Wheeler (aka: The Wanderer) was born on the family farm on 9/19/35 to Leo & Lilla Wheeler of Potsdam, NY. Childhood memories and sibling bonds were shared among his sisters Barbara Burdick (Claude) and Shirley Lumley (Weldon) and his late brothers Lyle Wheeler and Gary Wheeler.
Along with his siblings, he attended a one room school house, often escaping to fish and wander the fields and woods rather than sit in his classroom chair.
Middle school brought him to town where he locked eyes with Madlyn and they eventually became high school sweethearts. That young romance grew to a 60+ year marriage, 3 children – the late Steven Wheeler (wife: Susan), Stacey Wheeler and Ellen Miller (husband: Kevin), 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. From every angle of Fatherhood, he was there in heart and soul. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren, leaving us all with stories to tell for years to come (Oh, the stories!).
Eventually achieving the ability to sit in a classroom chair, Walter completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Oswego and his Masters Degree at St. Lawrence University. His lifelong career of teaching and school administration was not just a job for him, but a passion. He retired as school principal in Fort Plain, NY in 1991 with rich memories and lasting friendships that enlightened the rest of his life.
In case you don't know, Walter is famous. No matter how far he traveled, he would always (seriously, ALWAYS) run into somebody who knew him. He loved people, especially children. He taught his family to love nature and the great outdoors and to take care of one another like he took care of us.
