Susan E. (Walker) Aponick, 74, of Mahanoy City, formerly of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Oct. 15, 2021, at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Shenandoah, on Jan. 28, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Freeman) Walker.

Sue was a 1965 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

Earlier in life, she was employed for more than 22 years at the former City Shirt Factory, Mahanoy City and Frackville. She was currently employed as a CNA in home health care for America's Home Health Services, Pottsville, and prior to that for Addus Homecare for 20 years.

Sue was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mahanoy City. Prior to that, she was a very devout and active member of the former First United Methodist Church, Shenandoah, having volunteered much time for annual Easter egg project, food sales, suppers and any other functions that were held.

She was a believer in family and treasured the time that she spent with them. She enjoyed word searches and puzzles and was an animal lover, especially cats.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Wasil Aponick; three sisters, Margaret Ann "Muggs" Walker, RN, Shirley Gottshall and Edith Lipiec; and one stepdaughter, Sally Ann Aponick.

Surviving are her brother, Clayton Walker and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mahanoy City, who were her caregivers and were always there for her and took her to all of her appointments and attended to her needs; her brother, Frank Walker and his wife, Lillian, of New Jersey; two sisters, Ruth Holden, of Shenandoah, and Grace Schuyler, of Drums; great-nieces, Aubrey and Emma Walker, whom she loved dearly; nieces, nephews and their families; and her beloved cat, Jinglebell Baby.

Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, with Pastor Bruni Martinez officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held from 8 until 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. Face masks are recommended.
