Son of Daniel Norman Hitchcock and Bona Vera Ridgeway, he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U. S. Navy in WWI. He was six feet tall, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a scar on his forehead. After war ended, returned to Chicago, where he lived with his mother, and became Manager of a real estate company.
