Shirley attended Walnut Grove School and finished her high school years in Springfield Missouri at¹ Glendale High School.
She moved to Southern California with her sister and brother-in-law, in 1965. She worked as a CNA in the pediatric unit at the local hospital.
After returning to Springfield Missouri in 1969, she married Larry Clell Lakey on October 21, 1971. Together they had 1 son, Larry Shane Lakey.
Shirley enjoyed weekends at the lake, or on the river, gardening, cooking, spending time with her family and friends. Later in life she enjoyed an occasional trip to the casinos.
She raised her immediate family of 3 boys and 3 girls, and took care of many other children throughout her lifetime, including being the neighborhood mom.
She worked various jobs throughout her life in food hospitality, with the Foster Nursing Home, Micro Innovations, and with Bass Pro Shop Fulfillment Center, before starting her own bait and tackle business in Aldrich Missouri in 1999.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Ferdie Otis Parnell and Alene Mae Parnell (Byers), her youngest son Larry Shane Lakey, her brother Ferdie Otis (JR), her brother Hubert, her sister Barbara Parnell , her brother Weldon, and her sister Vivian Stafford.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Larry Clell Lakey, her son Larry Stafan (Lynette) Lakey of Aldrich, Missouri, Candice Lakey and (Frank) of Sellersburg, Indiana, Loy (Helen) Lakey of Sibley, Missouri, Leota (Kenny) Carlisle of Marshfield, Missouri, Laura (Gary) Gott of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by her sister Betty (Chester) Cozad of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, and Carolyn Cruse of Springfield, Missouri, and grandson Shane Lakey of Walnut Grove, Missouri, and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces to mention.
