He was born August 13, 1912 in Streator, a son of Ellis and Ethel (Livsey) Tibbles. He married Phyllis Barnwell on June 30, 1934 at St. Anthony's Church rectory. She survives.
Also surviving are one son: Thomas Tibbles of Streator; three daughters: Jacalyn Broadus of Streator, Beverly (William) Pearson of Ottawa, and Patricia (William) Novotney of Grand Ridge; ten grandchildren; three sisters: Carolyn Briner, Marge (Denver) Schuler and Lorna (William) Seput, all of Streator; and three brothers: George Tibbles, Robert Tibbles and William Tibbles, all of Streator.
He lived in Streator all of his life and had retired from Owens-Illinois in January of 1975 after 30 years of service.

Services for Ellis C. Tibbles, a lifelong Streator resident, who died Friday evening at St. Mary's Hospital, were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Solon Funeral home.
The Rev. Francis J. Cahill officiated at the service and also conducted the graveside rites in St. Mary's Cemetery. Several organ sections were played by Mrs. Francis Hatzer Jr.
Pallbearers were Jeff Pearson, William Pearson Jr., Thomas Nagle, Morteza Rezai, Michael Hillier and Robert Tibbles.
