Albert W. Gerlach
March 17, 1940 - January 14, 2009

Albert William Gerlach, the son of George and Mary (Vaughan) Gerlach, was born March 17, 1940, in Fargo, where he grew up and received his education, in Fargo. He graduated from Shanley High School, in 1958, and attended NDSU.

On Oct. 14, 1960, Albert married Sharon Sprenger, in Fargo, where they made their home. The family moved to Bismarck, ND., where they lived for about 5 years. They returned to Fargo, in 1970. Albert worked for O'Day Appliance Store, Fargo; he owned and operated Morrison TV and Appliance, in Fargo; he was the national sales manager of Arkota Industries, in Valley City, ND.; worked at Valley Imports, Fargo, and owned and operated Gerlach Communications, to this day.

Albert was extremely active in North Dakota Babe Ruth baseball. He coached for a number of years and served as president of Fargo Babe Ruth. He was the North Dakota Babe Ruth state commissioner, from 1991 until 1999, and was inducted into the ND Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame, in 2002. One of his highlights was coaching Chris Coste, while Chris was still in high school.

Albert cheered on the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting, and he liked to garden.

Albert died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in Innovis Health, Fargo, at the age of 68.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, Fargo; three sons: Blaine (Kathy) Gerlach, Moorhead, MN., Bill Gerlach, Cullowhee, North Carolina, and Bryan (Shelly) Gerlach, Moorhead; sisters: Rosemary Peterson and Patrica (Frank) Witte; brothers, George (Carol).

Visitation: Friday, 4 PM until 8 PM.,

Prayer service: Friday, 5:30 PM.,
Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral Mass: Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at 11 AM., St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo.
