Carol Ann (Amthor) Teska, age 83, died peacefully on October 27, 2015, in Neenah, WI, less than two months after a diagnosis of small cell lung cancer.

She was born on May 17, 1932, in Waupun, WI, the daughter of Walter and Zella (Andrews) Amthor, and graduated from Waupun High School. She attended Lawrence University, Appleton, and the University of Wisconsin – Madison and graduated from Washington University, St. Louis with a degree in teaching.

In August 1952, Carol met John Teska at the dairy bar in downtown Green Lake shortly before he went back to college in Oklahoma. After an intense long-distance romance, they married on June 20, 1953, in Waupun, and enjoyed 61 years together. After a brief stint in St. Louis, they moved to the Los Angeles area where she taught junior high English. When John made a career change, they moved to Oklahoma as he finished graduate school. In 1967, they achieved their dream of returning to Green Lake, where she focused on volunteering and raising their children.

When all her children were in school, Carol returned to teaching in the Markesan School District. In 1981, she became an entrepreneur when she and John opened the first of four Computer Land stores. The couple retired in 1993, living in Berlin, Wautoma, and Neenah.

She loved reading and her grammar, penmanship and spelling were impeccable. Known as "sailing grandma" to her oldest grandchildren, she and John raced E scows on Green Lake and in Midwestern regattas. Throughout her life, Carol volunteered for many organizations including the League of Women Voters, her church vestry, and several area agencies on aging.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Teska Veum (Tom Silverstein) and her sons Benjamin (Nicole Vantine) and Christopher; her son, Tom Teska (Alyssa Ten Harmsel) and their son, Brendan; her son Andrew (Lynn) Teska, and their children, Maisie, Nickolas, and Alexander, and her dog, Fred.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Flora Lou (Amthor) Russell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 31, at St. Peter Episcopal Church, 217 Houston St., Ripon, WI. Donations in her memory may be made to the Green Lake Yacht Club, PO Box 684, Green Lake, WI 54941.
