Sammie Joy Smith, 81 of Edmond, Oklahoma and previously of Sand Point at Lake Texoma, joined her heavenly father September 4, 2007 after a brief illness. She was born December 6, 1925 at Comanche, Oklahoma to Casscus Sparks and Beulah Benson Sparks, who proceeded her in death. Sammie was always an active Christian in the various Baptist Churches, teaching Sunday school for many years, doing outreach in Alaska and other ministries. She was an office manager for over 40 years for Orthopedic Surgeons. Sammie held national office for the Medical Assistants Association and was State President in both Oklahoma and Alaska during her career. She ended work life at the Mental Health Office in Bryan County.

She is survived by her husband Donald A. Smith of the home; son Michael Smith and wife Dale, Columbia, SC; daughter Melinda and husband Bryan Hardcastle, Edmond, OK; granddaruters Claudia Henslee, Columbia, SC, Brittany Kirk and husband Dale, Lindsay, OK, Brienna Hardcastle, Edmond, OK, Keely Owens and husband Darren, Yukon, OK; grandsons Michael and wife Allison Benson, Tulsa, OK, Bradley Hardcastle, Midwest City, OK; sisters Flora Gene Flynn, Mead, OK, Mary Beth Shuttleworth and husband Gerald, Pharr, TX, Carol Sue Rutter and husband Nelson, Clovis, NM, De Anne Mobley, Clovis, NM, Sylvia Shugart and husband Jerry, Clovis, NM; brothers Nolen Sparks and wife Loreva, Baton Rouge, LA, Darrell Sparks and wife Judy, Cordova, TN; brother-in-law Joe Smith, Ardmore, OK; friend Jo Ann McElroy, Hooker, OK.
