Known to many simply as Mr. "Z". His four sons called him Dad. All other family members called him Papoo. Frank was born in Manhattan, New York on March 29, 1927 as a single child to Austrian immigrants, Franz and Antoinette Zehentner. He passed on October 29, 2021 after a battle with COVID. He was with family in his room at The Parson's House assisted living center in LaPorte, Texas. He loved that place.

Frank graduated from Kingston, NY Highschool in 1944. His earlier education consisted of a one-room, one teacher schoolhouse from first to ninth grades. Following graduation, he served in the Army Signal Corps with occupation forces in Italy from 1945 to 1948. He began his career in motion picture photography in 1952. Frank made his way to Texas in 1953. He was a traveling reporter, photographer for Texas Independent Film Co who produced the weekend TV show, "Texas in Review." Frank's crowning pride were the 29 years, 1965 – 1994, he spent at the NASA Johnson Space Center photography labs. He and his team personally handled and developed the original film of the space flights. He also met many astronauts including the "original seven." He was especially proud of being involved in developing the first original film from the 1969 moon landing.

Frank and Bonnie Jean Anderson were married in 1953. Bonnie was a widow with a son, Steve Ward. Throughout 25 years of marriage they had three more sons: Robert Warren, Loren Lamar, and Joseph Alexander. In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, son Loren, and his later soul-mate, Madlyn Bufkin. He and Madlyn spent 23 of his happiest years together traveling and comforting each other. Frank would want everyone to know they never lived together, but the doors to their apartments were always mere feet from each other. They were inseparable. Madlyn was the second Mom to his sons and a wonderful grandmother to his grandchildren. Madlyn had two children, Brian and Michelle who dearly loved Frank as well.

Frank's surviving family include his three sons, Steve, Robert and Joseph; daughter-in-law, Sherry Ward; grandchildren "Little" Robert, Bonnie, Christy, Alicia, Mara, Hannah, Natalie, and Coby; great-grandchildren Zach, Stella, Vonnie Lou, Holly, Mitch, Isaiah, Jackson, Christian, Marissa, Aiden, Madison, Kenley, Paisely, and Adalynn.

A service of remembrance will be held 10:00am, Thursday, Nov. 4th, with a visitation beginning at 9:00am at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. Burial ceremonies will occur directly afterwards. A reception is planned following the burial at the Ward's home, 1505 Garden Ct., Deer Park, TX 77536. 832-215-0003.
