Two youths shot, killed in unrelated incidents
Gary - A 12-year-old Aetne girl shot and killed her 10-year-old sister Thursday and 16-year-old West Side boy was gunned down on the street, police said today.
Tammy Sanders 10, of 4709 E. 10th Ave., was shot in the face at her home when her sister, Tina, 12, "moved a rifle" that discharged, Police Department spokesman William Burns said.
Burns said it has not been determined whether the shooting with the .22-caliber rifle was accidental. He said he did not know if the parents were at home at the time of the shooting about 7 p.m.
Earlier in the day, Samuel Calhoun, 16, of 740 Polk St. was shot in the chest and killed as he walked near 3rd Avenue and Taft Street with two friends.
The friends said a car drove up and one of it's occupants shot Calhoun. He was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus where he died.
Burns said no further details on either shooting were available.
