He was born Oct. 3, 1935, in LeRose, Ky., the son of James T. and Edna Duff Smith. He was the senior class president of the Austin High School class of 1955, a member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and attended Grace Covenant Church of God in Austin. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired as an inspector of weapons from the Jefferson Proving Grounds. He was a fan of University of Kentucky Basketball, the Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed woodworking, keeping his yard neat, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna Noble Smith; one son, David Smith of Austin; one daughter, Crystal Smith of Bloomington; one brother, Eugene Smith of Michigan; two sisters, Faye Hoffman of Scottsburg and Geraldine Richie of Clarksville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was at Grace Covenant Church of God, Austin. Burial was in Spurgeon Cemetery, Austin.
