Mary Jane was born to Eliza (Simpkins) and John Jordan in Barbour County, AL on 17 September 1852. Sometime after 1858 when John Jordan died in Louisville, Barbour County, AL, Eliza and her daughter moved to Lowndes County, AL. Eliza married John M. Goodwin, whose first wife, had died during the Civil War. Mary Jane married Urias Delarrey Autrey in Lowndes Co., AL on 27 Feb 1870. They lived in the community of Macedonia in Lowndes County. Urias died and was buried at Macedonia in 1906 and his grave is marked in the Macedonia Cemetery. When Mary Jane died, the weather was so bad that burial at Macedonia was not practical. So she was buried at the Fort Dale Cemetery near her son's (George Nicholas Autrey)farm. Several of the Autrey family had already been interred at Fort Dale. Family members placed a marker next to Mary Jane in memory of her husband, Urias even though he is not buried at Fort Dale.
