"DICKINSON BOY RITES AWAIT.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed today for 6 year old Don M. Dickinson III, who drowned in the Detroit River yesterday afternoon while at play in the rear of the Dickinson home, Indian Village Manor, 8120 East Jefferson avenue.
The boy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don M. Dickinson Jr., are grief stricken today.
The tragedy occurred while Mrs. Dickinson was downtown shopping for Christmas toys for her two children, Don and his younger sister, Eloise, 4.
FATHER NOTIFIED.
The boy's father, son of the late Don M. Dickinson, former postmaster general, hurried from his downtown real estate office when word was telephoned to him.
Don had tried to bridge a six foot gap between the sea walls of the Indian Village and Alden Park Manors by clinging to the outer side of a strip of wire netting stretched between the two. His fingers numbed and he lost his grip, falling into 10 feet of icy water.
A companion, 7 year old Billy McLane, son of M. M. McLane, also of the Indian Village Manor, summoned help.
Police of the harbor master's detail recovered the body in 30 minutes, and seven members of the Fire Department's Rescue Squad No. 3 worked an hour and a quarter with a pulmotor on the boy before hope was given up. The father and four physicians were present.
The W. R. Hamilton Company will have charge of the funeral, details of which will be completed later today. Mrs. Dickinson and her mother, Mrs. William C. Croul are under the care of a physician."
