Obituary:
Edwin G.S. Alger - Word was received here on Tuesday last of the death of Wakefield, R.I., on Monday, of Edwin G. S. Alger, well known in this city, where he formerly resided. Mr. Alger was a mason by trade and was foreman for Mr. William J. Underwood for a number of years. Later he was associated with the late Robert McIntosh of the firm of McIntosh & Alger.
Mr. Alger moved to Wakefield some years ago. The deceased leaves a widow, three daughter and one son. The body of Mr. Alger was brought from Wakefield on the steamer General on Thursday afternoon, being accompanied by members of the family.
Charles E. Lawton Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of which the deceased was a member, met the party at the boat landing and the body was escorted to the Island Cemetery. The burial serves were in charge of Rev. C. H. Smith, of the Thames Street Methodist Episcopal Church, assisted by a clergyman from Wakefield. At the grave, a quartet sang "Abide with Me" and "Lead Kindly Light."
