Ella Virginia Blount Howe McLean, 91, of Thalmann died Thursday at her residence surrounded by her family.

A native of Brunswick she had lived in Thalmann all of her life. She was the former owner and operator of McLean's Grocery in Thalmann. She also was a welder on the side of Liberty Ships for J.L. Jones Shipyard during World War II. She was a lifelong member of Glynn Baptist Church in Thalmann.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glynn Baptist Church, Thalmann, with the Revs. Wayne Williamson and Darrell Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Blounts Crossing Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Lamar Joiner, Brad Joiner, Bubba Williamson, Randy Herndon, Larry Clark, Jeff Altman and Aaron Howard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Watkins and staff and the nursing staff of CareSouth Home Health.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wade Howe and Rupert McLean; and her siblings, the Rev. A.C. Blount, George Blount, William Blount, John Blount, Leona Blount and Ila Blount.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Melissa) Howe, Frances (James) Herndon and Linda Joiner (Mickey Miller) all of Thalmann, and Shirley (Wayne) Williamson of Baxley; a sister-in-law, Jertie Mae Hanna of Sumter, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
