Roxana Derus, 94, died peacefully in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on May 4, 2013. She was born on April 12, 1919 in Denmark, Wisconsin to the late August and Edith (née Christiansen) Johnsen. Roxana was the youngest of four sisters, Florence, Mildred, and Effie all of whom have preceded her in death.
Roxana graduated from Denmark High School in 1936 and from Manitowoc Business College in 1937. She worked as an accountant throughout her life.
Roxana married Erwin P. Derus on December 27, 1943, and celebrated
50 years of marriage in 1993. She nurtured family with her whole heart. Erwin preceded Roxana in death on November 13, 1994.
Survivors include her children Jean (Richard) Reimer of Littleton, Colorado, Margaret Derus and Daniel Mork of Milwaukee, David (Linda) Derus of Menomonee Falls, and Marilyn (James)
Dalton of LaCrosse. She was a loving grandmother to
Robert (Wallene), Donald, Michelle (Hannah), Ryan (Nicole), Nick
(Jackie), Charley (Teresa), John, and Elisabeth and great-grandmother to Adam, Jessi, Bjorn, Sara, Abby, and Elliot.
Roxana also cared for her church family and was a lifelong member of
First Lutheran Church. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place at First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Cremation has taken place and Roxana will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Erwin, at Knollwood Mausoleum.
