Robert Arthur Berg

Robert Arthur Berg passed away on December 1, 2016 at the Mirabella Seattle Retirement Home. He had been ill for several years with Parkinson's disease. Bob was born in Shelton, Washington in 1928 to Gust and Laurel Berg. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Berg and father of Carolyn Berg and son, Kenneth Berg.

Bob graduated from Shelton High in 1947 and attended the University of Puget Sound where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He transferred to the University of Washington where he earned his Master's Degree in Education with a specialty in Industrial Education.

He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1952. After spending time in New London, Connecticut he was assigned to the Coast Guard ship The Northwind which was on duty in the Arctic.

Bob began his teaching career in Clallam Bay, Washington in 1954 and transferring to Bainbridge Island in 1956. He then moved his family to the Republic of Panama, Panama Canal Zone, teaching there until 1967. His teaching career ended in 1989 after a total of 35 years when he retired from North Kitsap School District.

In addition to teaching, Bob's greatest enjoyment was travel: Canada and Alaska, North, Central and South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, not counting Russia, there was not much of the world he hadn't seen.

His family would like to thank the nursing staff and aides at Mirabella for his excellent care during the final days of his life. Donations may be made to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation of Seattle.
