Professional Basketball Player. Born David William Meyers, he attended Sonora High School in California and played collegiate basketball at the University of California (Los Angeles). While with UCLA, under the guidance of legendary coach John Wooden, Meyers achieved consensus All-American honors in 1975 and experienced two NCAA Championships (1973 and 1975). The later he captained which was Wooden's final title. He earned the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1975. Meyers was selected by Los Angeles as the number two overall pick during the 1975 NBA Draft, however he was traded to the Bucks in a multiple player transaction which sent Kareem Abdul Jabbar to the Lakers. For parts of four seasons (1975 to 1978 and 1979 to 1980), he played at the power-forward position with the Milwaukee Bucks and produced a career-high 1,178 points during the 1977-1978 season. Meyers suffered a serious back injury, prior to the 1978-1979 season which resulted in his retirement a year later. In 281 career regular season games, he compiled 3,149 points. After retiring from basketball, he received a teaching degree and taught at the elementary school level for 30 years. He died following a battle with cancer. His younger sister Ann Meyers is a Hall of Fame basketball player and Olympic Silver Medalist (1976).
