She was born July 19, 1922, in Marceline, Mo., the daughter Walter Leo and Grace Elizabeth (Maxwell). She grew up in Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1940.
On Jan. 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leland Charles Geiss at her parents' home in Ottawa. They shared more than 61 years of marriage.
Mary was a military wife where she stayed home and took care of her family. They moved all over the world with her husband, Leland, who served and retired in the United States Air Force.
She always very active in volunteering for the American Red Cross, as a librarian and her various church functions on all the Air Force bases. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe.
She enjoyed playing golf, crafting and playing her violin. Most of all she enjoyed taking care of her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Leland, of the home; a son, Walter Lee Geiss, and his wife, Chiyoko, Pune, India; a daughter, Pamela Suzanne Traskowsky, and her husband, William, Gardner; one sister, Shirley J. Bellus, Kilgore, Texas; four grandchildren, James, Mary, Angela and Kimberly; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Geiss was preceded death by her parents and one brother, Walter "Max" Pickering.
