Conrad Acuna passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003, after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 12, 1961, in San Diego and spent the first seven years of his life in San Diego County. In 1968, the family moved to Newbury Park, California, where he resided at the time of his death.

He was a graduate of Newbury Park High School and Moorpark College, and was employed by GIORGIO of Los Angeles as a promotion designer when illness forced an early retirement. He was a certified Los Angeles County lifeguard and in addition to his full-time job, he performed lifeguard duties at various county beaches on weekends and holidays. A dedicated swimmer, he often participated in team-triathlon events swimming the open-ocean leg. Friends and family will remember him for his artistic creativeness, daring (bungee jumping and ocean kayaking) and disarming personality. He is survived by his parents, Gilbert and Virginia Acuna; sister Janet; and brother Ray, all of Newbury Park.

A Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 3821 Adams Ave., in Carlsbad with Father Brian Hayes presiding.

Burial to follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Sarah House, 2612 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93105.
