Lawrence Scholten, age 82, of Paramount, California, formerly of Alton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28 at a hospital in Paramount.

Lawrence was born April 27, 1906 in Iowa, the son of Henry Scholten and Anna Ketel Scholten. He married Esther Jansen. He had been an auto parts man for 40 years. The couple moved to California 36 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Salome M. of Glendale, Calif.; a son, Larry R. of Kent, Wash.; a grandson, Garrett A.; a sister, Anna Marie Berkenpas and a brother, Elroy H., both of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lawrence.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. The Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf officiated. The Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge of arrangements.
