Alice Mae Bruhn was born May 11, 1938, on the family farm near Cylinder, Iowa, to Erwin and Doris (Meyer) Bruhn. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran Church near Fairville, Iowa. She graduated from Cylinder High School in 1956. She continued her education at Fort Dodge Beauty Academy in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She worked as a stylist at Larsons Beauty Salon in Spencer, Iowa. She later owned and operated House of Beauty in Sioux Center, Iowa, for a few years.
She was united in marriage to Karl Klein on Oct. 1, 1960. She later owned and operated Sunset Beauty in Sheldon, Iowa. Karl passed away Feb. 3, 1979. Following Karl's death, she assumed the ownership and management of Klein Trucking. She continued the trucking firm until her retirement on July 1, 1990.
She was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Hinken on May 19, 1984, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The couple enjoyed spending much of the summers at their home on Lake Okoboji. They also enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Mesa, Ariz.
She loved to sit and watch the grandchildren play on the beach. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Richard Hinken of Le Mars; two children and their spouses, Karla and Dean Schwartz of Le Mars and their children, Tyler and Andrea, and Kyle and Krista Klein of Le Mars and their children, Kristofer, Kenzi, Kelby and Karson; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Paul Dietrich of Emmetsburg, Iowa; a brother and his wife, William and Janice Bruhn of Fenton, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Doris (Meyer) Bruhn; and her husband.
Pallbearers will be Mike Haverhals, Robert Andersen, Rick Stream, Walt Kleinhesselink, Jerry Arens and Galen Bruhn.
