Thomas Eugene "Gene" Hendrix, 97, of Gore, Oklahoma passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born August 3, 1924 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma to Tom and Blanche Hendrix.

Gene attended school at McIntosh Country School south of Webbers Falls before being drafted to serve in World War II. His tour began on May 7, 1943 and later received a Honorable Discharge on November 21, 1945. His tour took him to Normandy among other stops in Central Europe.

On March 28, 1948 Gene married Mary Ellen Girty in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. They lived in California before returning home in 1961. He owned and operated Pud's Place Bar for several years, before working and retiring from the Corp of Engineers. He enjoyed raising cattle, farming, and hunting. He was known for his intellect resulting in even skipping grades in school. He was Google before Google was invented. He loved his daily crossword puzzles, watching westerns, and was an avid reader. Louis L'Amour didn't write a book he didn't read.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, his parents Tom and Blanche, special step father, Prince Harris, sisters, Lear Cope and Willodean Ford, brothers, Robert Hendrix and an infant twin.

Survivors include son, Larry Hendrix and wife Mindy of Roland, Oklahoma and daughter Debbie McClure of Muldrow, Oklahoma. Grandchildren, Casey Newcomer and husband Jason of Warner, Oklahoma, Zach Hendrix of Roland, Oklahoma, Crystal Hart and husband Joe of Rogers, Arkansas and Amanda Kusler and husband Nick of Warner, Oklahoma. Great Grandchildren, Cason and Addison Newcomer, Peyton Bolyard and wife Jordyn, Atley and Haven Hart, and Heath and Kate Kusler, Great Great Grandchild, Blake Bolyard.

Gene's family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00, Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Agent Millsap Event Center in Gore, Oklahoma. Services will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Webbers Falls First Assembly of God Church at 1:00 pm in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Tom Girty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Peyton Bolyard, Dustin Kusler, Josh Kusler, NIck Kusler, Jason Newcomer, and Jim Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.C. Hart, Zach Hendrix, Heath Kusler, Richard Monholland, Cason Newcomer, and Bill Shanks.
