Doris Jean (Adkins) Abbott, 81 of Harts, WV, went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2021 at Dignity Hospice in Chapmanville, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born March 4, 1940 in Harts, WV a daughter of the late Lloyd and Vesta Adkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, William Fred Abbott, one son, Johnny "Boobie" Abbott, brother, Arnold Joe Adkins and infant brothers, William and Virgil Adkins, one great-grandson, Jaxson Lucas and her faithful dog Rocky.

Doris retired from being head cook at Ferrellsburg Elementary where she fed all of her "babies" and beloved co-workers. She was a member of Greenshoal Freewill Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir and testify for the Lord. Doris loved to sew, quilt and craft. She always enjoyed trying a new recipe and feeding anyone that would take a bite. Doris was always proud of her garden and her canning abilities. She loved to send people off with a jar of this or that, whether it be family, friends or strangers. Her favorite things to do was fishing and spending time with her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her five devoted children, Madonna (Ron) Kamphaus of Cloverdale, OH, Michael "Arab" Abbott, Ronald "Punk" (Annie) Abbott and Linda "Pee-Wee" (Rickey) Thomas all of Harts and Pamela (Keith) Dowdy of Chapmanville; seven adoring grandchildren, Jarrod (Jillian) Abbott, Jill (Kris) Pridemore, Michelle Kamphaus all of Harts, Stacy (Adam) English of Oakwood, OH, Brad Kamphaus of Columbus, OH, Rickey Lee (Samantha Schmidt) Thomas of North Fork and Stephanie Dowdy of Chapmanville; ten precious great-grandchildren, Cody, Harlee, Raylee, Sophya, Cole, Claire, Kerrigan, Grant, Aubrie, and Charlee; one brother, Leroy Adkins of Fairborn, OH; sisters-in-law, Joann Caldwell of Sarasota, Fl and Ann Adkins of Charleston; along with a host of other family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice for all their care and compassion.

Services will be held at 10:30am, Friday, October 29, 2021 at Freeman Funeral Home with Frankie Frye officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Friends may call Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brad, Jarrod, Rickey Lee, Dakota, Cole, Adam and Kris.
