Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Whitehurst Loyd Funeral Chapel in Porterville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Poplar Church of God with the Rev. Thomas Griffith officiating. Interment will be at the Woodville Cemetery.
Mr. Akin, a native of Marked Tree, Ark., was a resident of Poplar. He was a building contractor for 30 years.
Akin was a member of the Poplar Church of God, Poplar Chamber of Commerce, PABA, Poplar-Cotton Center Redevelopment Agency, Poplar Community Service District, and a Certified Lay Minister for the Poplar Church of God. He was also a member of the United States Air Force and the American Legion Post 20.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Clara Akin of Poplar; two brothers, Jim Akin of Porterville and John Akin of Poplar; two sisters, La Verne Martin of Strathmore and Trisha Tyler of Brookland, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Vernie Akin.
