Son of Robert Colkitt from Maine and Margrette Martain from Pennsylvania.

Aged 70 years, died of carcinoma of stomach.

Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, December 7, 1909, pg 5 col 3: Death Summons Another Civil War Veteran. George W. Colkitt, formerly of this city, died at the home of J.M. Jewart on Sacramento avenue yesterday morning at the age of seventy years. He was a veteran of the Civil war and the funeral will be held under the auspices of Halleck Post, G.A.R., of this city, of which deceased was a member. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the Jewart residence, Rev. W.G. White of the Presbyterian church will officiate. The deceased returned to Chico a few months ago from Tennessee.

Invalided, per application filed Oct 8, 1888; and widow's benefits grants to Hanna M Colkitt on Mar 15, 1910.

Chico Cemetery Association records indicate burial, at the age of 70 took place on Dec 7, 1909.

Chico Record, Wednesday Morning, December 8, 1909, pg 3 col 2: Funeral of G.W. Colkitt. The remains of George Watson Cokitt were laid to rest yesterday afternoon in the Chico cemetery. The deceased was a native of Missouri [sic] and served in the Civil War on the Union side. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. W.G. White of the Presbyterian church, and the services were held under the auspices of Halleck Post G.A.R.
