Ray E. Amber, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday morning, November 21, 2021, to be with the love of his life, with his family by his side, at Oelwein MercyOne in Oelwein.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 28, 2021, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein.
Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa, at a later date.
A Memorial Fund has been established in his name.

Raymond Eugene Amber was born on August 29, 1943, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. His parents were Robert Clair & Betty Irene (Jordan) Amber. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in the class of 1961. Ray worked in the construction field in Oskaloosa and Cedar Rapids. Ray was united in marriage to Joyce Irma Moellers on October 14, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved from Atkins to Oelwein in 1974. Ray then worked for Humphrey Construction for 5 years and Speedy Manufacturing for 7 years. In 1992 Ray started his electrical apprenticeship at Cargill in Eddyville and graduated as a journeyman, retiring from Cargill in 2004.
Ray was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He had previously been a Boy Scout Scoutmaster in Atkins for several years, receiving the Scoutmaster of the Year Award from the Hawkeye Chapter. Ray was a captain on the Oelwein Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT1 for 11 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and going on nature walks with his daughters and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his 4 Daughters: Betty (Kim) Haar of Oelwein,
Rhonda (Eric) Erdelt of Ankeny,
Brenda Amber (Steve) of Ankeny &
Sherry (Evan) Kooiker of Waukon;
6 grandchildren: Ryan Haar, Lance Haar (Paige), Nicholas Erdelt (fiancée, Makinzy), Olivia Erdelt, Elliot Kooiker and Chance Hill;
5 Siblings: Glennis (Elaine) Amber of Des Moines,
Virginia (Gary) Starkey of Grinnell,
Daniel (Rose) Beadle of Missouri City, Texas,
Jack (Metza) Templeton of Greeley, Colorado and
Kim Greer of York, Pennsylvania;
Brother-In-Law: Ron Luther of Jacksonville, Florida
