Donald Gene Snavely was born on March 9, 1937, in Palisade, Nebraska to Frank Snavely and Vernice Scott. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children in Salina, Kansas at Salina Regional Health Center on November 21, 2021.

Don was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather Kenneth Conner, sister-in-law Pat Conner, and sister-in-law Delores Snavely.

Don grew up in Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and Kansas. When speaking of his childhood he told exciting tales of adventure and survival. When he was a young boy, his father passed away. His mother eventually married his beloved stepfather, Ken Conner. Don joined the Navy in 1954 serving until 1957, then joining the National Guard.

After his military service, he managed the Mobil service station in downtown Wichita. He also had a long and successful career in sales, working for Phillip Morris, Bonneau, and Faberge. On May 7, 1983, Don married the love of his life, Mary Elaine Braun. They enjoyed sailing, antiquing and traveling together. He retired in 2003 from Raytheon Aircraft Company. Don and Elaine then moved to Miltonvale to restore a Victorian home; a project in which they incorporated their shared love of antiques and history.

Don was a man of many talents. He enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts with his sons, Michael and David, hunting, reading and restoring furniture for family and the antique shop he owned with Elaine in Kechi. He loved everything military, including military history and collecting trench art.

Don was dedicated to his faith and served as a deacon and volunteer in the Christian Church in Wichita for many years.
