Owen H Pierce, age 21, born about 1844, enlisted as a private in Company K, Oregon 1st Infantry Regiment. Sources: Index to Compiled Military Service Records, and, American Civil War Soldiers, and, Military Service of Soldiers Who Fought in Volunteer Organizations During the American Civil War.

Chico Daily Record, Monday Morning, November 29, 1897, pg 1 col 3: Death of a Veteran. Passing of Owen W. Pierce, an Old Resident. Owen W. Pierce, a native of Illinois, and aged about 53 years, died at the County Infirmary on Saturday after a long illness.

Mr. Pierce had lived in the vicinity of Forest Ranch for many years and was a man highly respected in that vicinity. He was a veteran of the civil war and sustained injuries sufficient to entitle him to a pension.

For some time previous to his removal to the Infirmary he had resided with Frank Poppewell and family who bestowed all possible care upon him. His remains were brought from Oroville yesterday by Fetters & Williams, and the funeral ceremonies will take place at the undertaking parlors at 10 a.m. today. Grand Army members will attend in a body and select from among their members the pall bearers. Interment will be in the cemetery.
