Lucille was born to parents Justus and Kathleen Ader Federer. She married James Hansen on June 8, 1957, and had two daughters, Vera and Shirley, and was grandmother of Shirley's children, Joey and Nicole Nelski. Lucille was the older sister of Ruth Wright, Nadine Richman, and Carole Taylor, who two months earlier, preceeded her in death.

Lucille loved being on the go visiting friends, going to restaurants, and greatly enjoyed puzzle making, Bingo, Bunco, and Yahtzee. Lucille also enjoyed participating in civic engagement through mentorship, and volunteerism.

In her early years, she volunteered for kitchen duty at her daughters elementary school to prepare hot lunches for students. Around this time she also volunteered to become a mentor to young girls as the Assistant Troop Leader of Junior Girl Scouts Troop 209.

In later years, Lucille was an active member of the American Legion Post 111 in Wayne, Michigan where she volunteered as Post Historian, Treasurer, and was on the Board of Directors.

In her mid-70s Lucille developed age related Dementia. At the age of 80 she was diagnosed with end stage cancer of the liver. Lucille passed away several months later, at home, with her family by her side.
