"Mrs. Rachel MayBelle O'Bannon of Creighton, Missouri, was born March 31, 1913 near Latour, Missouri, the daughter of James Thomas and Amanda May (Stoll) Shelten. She departed this life Monday, March 10, 2008 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 9 days.
Rachel was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Creighton, Missouri. Rachel enjoyed her family, children, cooking and baking. She had lived in Overland Park, Kansas before moving back to Creighton in 1978 and to Clinton in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a son, Garey M. O'Bannon and wife, Julie, Toronto, Kansas; two grandchildren, Rodney O'Bannon and wife, Ann and Rhonda O'Bannon; two great-grandsons, Clark and Luke, two great-great grandchildren, Tristan and Maddison; a brother, James A. Shelten {93} and a sister, Alma Sloan {97} both of Creighton, Missouri, other relatives and many friends."
Note: Rachel bought her marker many years ago and had the DOD engraved as 19__. People asked her if she didn't think she should leave the date blank in case she lived into the 2000's. She said she had been sickly all her life and there was no way she would make it out of the 1990's -- and here it is 2008. She suffered a lot during her last years.
