Vera Lea Butler, 91, of Paola, formerly Overland Park, KS passed away on November 24, 2021 from natural causes related to cancer.
Vera Lea Kennedy was born on June 4, 1930 in Kansas City, MO. Her parents were Joseph G. Kennedy and Myrtle R. Kennedy. On July 22, 1950 Vera Lea Kennedy married George Butler, her high school sweetheart. They enjoyed nearly 70 years of married life together.

Vera Lea graduated from Southeast High School. Vera Lea had a beautiful voice and sang in her school choir as well as church. She also enjoyed all sports, especially volleyball. As an accomplished secretary, she worked for the Pentagon while George was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA. during the Korean War. In 1953 she began her most rewarding career as a stay-at-home mother and devoted wife. Eventually she went back to work for George E. Butler & Associates, Inc., now known as GBA. She retired from GBA after more than 20 years of service.

For enjoyment Vera Lea and George could often be found at Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO and traveling our beautiful country. Two of Vera Lea's favorite destinations were Hilton Head, SC and Oahu, HI. Time at their Lake home included making sure the local birds were well feed – she especially enjoyed her hummingbirds, wild turkeys and owls. Vera Lea enjoyed years participating in her book club and her reviews were always appreciated by other members. She was an avid reader throughout her life. Vera Lea was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph G. & Myrtle R. Kennedy, brother Robert Kennedy, her spouse, George E Butler Jr. She is survived by, her brother-in-law Kenneth V. Butler (Jean) of CT, children Janet Kerner (William), Judy Sullivan (Ron), Kenneth G. (Karen), Jeffrey (fiancé Renee) and grandchildren Michelle, Rebecca and Ronnie Sullivan, and great grandson Sawyer Fouard.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 am Friday December 3, 2021 at Mt. Moriah Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO with funeral services immediately following at 10:00. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 am at Mt. Moriah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Knox United Presbyterian Church (Overland Park, KS) and the American Cancer Society.
