Mattoon Woman's Mother Dies, Mrs. Julia Ellen McLaughlin, mother of Mrs. Fern Harrah, of Mattoon, died late Wednesday afternoon at her home in Charleston after a brief illness. Death was due to a heart ailment. Mrs. McLaughlin was 80 years old. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Harper-Swickard funeral home in Charleston. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery, south of Charleston.
Mrs. McLaughlin, as Julia Ellen Kern, was born Jan. 5, 1861, near Humboldt, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kern. She was married three times and for many years resided in the state of Kansas. Her third husband, Charles McLaughlin, died In 1939. Mrs. McLaughlin had resided in Charleston for the past 30 years. Surviving besides Mrs. Harrah is a son, Fred Moler of St. Louis.
