Miguel Alva, 68, of Houston, Texas passed away Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Christus St. John Hospital in Houston. Mr. Alva was born May 8, 1939, to Pablo and Amelia Alva in Alamo, Texas in the lower Rio Grande Valley. He was a captain in the US Air Force serving in the Vietnam War and he served with the Texas Air National Guard, with combined service of 23 years; he was a member of Albert J. Delange Masonic Lodge #1403; a member of the Knights of Columbus # 6859 and a member of St. Helen Catholic Church; and he worked for the City of Houston for 20 years.

Mr. Alva is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mercedes Moreno Alva; father, Pablo R. Alva of McAllen; three daughters, Alma Alva, Bianca (Brian) McCarver and Laura Alva; one son, Adrian Alva; one brother, Lionel Alva of McAllen; and four grandchildren, Aaron, Juliann, Adam and Aiden; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland, Texas, with Msgr. Reginald R. Nesvadba officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas with full military honors. Pallbearers were Joel Gonzalez, Philip Lippold, Adrian Alva, Steve Lippold, Homer Lomas, Ed Alva, Lionel Alva and Brian McCarver. Honorary Pallbearer was Aaron McCarver.
