Brother Michael Angelus
MIDDLETOWN— Brother Michael Angelus CFX (James Augustus Abetnethy) a Xaverian brother for more than 70 years, died Sunday at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown.
He was born in 1898 in Holton, Maine, a son of the late James and Mary O'Donell Abernathy.
He entered the congregation of the Xaverian Brothers in 1917 at Mount St. Joseph College, Baltimore, Md.
In a teaching career that spanned over 50 years ha taught Spanish and commercial subjects in grammar schools and high school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothen from Maine to Kentucky.
His last teaching assignment was at Xavier High Scnool in Middletown.
After his retirement from the classroom he began a new career of ministering to the sick and the elderly at New Britain Memorial Hospital and at the Brittany Farms Health Center in New Britain.
He is survived by nieces Mrs. C.P. Atwood of Augusta, Maine, Mrs. Ellie Foley of the Plantsville section of Southington, and Mrs. Bernice Goody and Mrs. Dorothy Lightner both of Jacksonville, Fla.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Middletown, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Danvers, Mass.
