Kenneth J. Marquis, age 95 of Freeville, NY passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 at his home.
Born February 24, 1926 in Cortland, NY he was the son of the late James and Ethel Breeds Marquis and husband of the late Joyce Wallace Wernick Marquis who passed away in 2008.
Ken enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1943 and served in the Asiatic, Pacific Area. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1946.
He was employed by the Surge Corp. for many years and was the Regional Director for 9 states. In 1971 he began working for himself. He developed and owned an apartment complex in Etna for over 25 years. He also operated a farm in Etna where his love for raising Red Angus Beef Cattle distinguished him as breeding some of the finest Red Angus Cattle in the U.S.
He was a member of the NYS Grange for over 75 years and was a member of the Red Angus Association.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Howe of Freeville, NY, Candace (Jeff) Capogrossi of Columbia, SC and Cynthia Marquis of Etna, NY; grandchildren, Chastity Howe Nixon, Justin Howe, Kristen Capogrossi Giombi, Kathryn Capogrossi Giniger, Bronson Glover, Chancellor Russell, Paige Yolman and Cole Yolman; great grandchildren, Tyler Nixon, Garrett Howe, Ella Giombi and Layne Giniger; brothers, Clarence (Dorothy) Marquis of Freeville, NY and Cliff (Darleen) Marquis of Kentucky and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he was predeceased by a daughter, Corinne Marquis Glover; grandson, Eli Yolman; sister, Katie Moore and brother, Kermit Marquis.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 11am – 12 pm. A service will follow at 12 pm at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY with Pastor John Iler officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Testament Church of Peruville, 1380 State Route 34B, Groton, NY 13073.
