Wilma Lois Brooks Matthews, 94 of Louisville, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Sam Swope Care Center Masonic Home.

A 1945 graduate of Glendale High School and a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. She retired from Elizabethtown School System where she was a secretary at Elizabethtown High School for 32 years. She loved her job and loved the kids. She was always an advocate for the "underdog" and frequently ran interference between many a wayward student and the principal or teacher.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Hurshell Ash and Dr. Robert C. Matthews; her parents, Charles Wayne and Mary Edna Horn Brooks; a brother, Bernard "B.C." Brooks; and her two beloved mini schnauzers, Nicole and Ashley.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Ash Babb (Steve); one nephew, Tony Brooks; three step-grandchildren, Todd (Tabithia) Wilbert and three children, Elizabeth Babb, and Lt. Colonel Emily (Zack) Koziol and three children; and her beloved mini schnauzer, Madison.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm with Pastor Matt Trumbo officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 11 am Sunday until the time of the service.
