She remarried in 1971 to Emmanuel Wegner. Their time together was brief, and Emanuel passed shortly thereafter. Esther remained in Elgin until 1987, when she moved to Bismarck. She continued to work with Burleigh County until she was 80.
Esther was a skilled quilter, gardener, June berry finder, and sweet-treat eater. She loved to travel, spend time with family, read, take long walks, and sing loudly. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and a lifelong North Dakota resident. Esther lived on her own terms and in her own home until the age of 98.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children (Jack, Jerry, and Lavonne), five grandchildren (Dawn, Michael, Jeffrey, Daniel, and Kathryn), and 14 great-grandchildren (River, Reed, Simone, Zackrey, Jayden, Blake, Braxtyn, Quinn, Lucy, Olivia, Agalynn, Raelynn, Lilah, and Theo).
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers, three sisters, and her husbands Emil and Emanuel.
