Historical note: January 24, 1943 was the deadliest day in U.S. Army aviation history,
when 12 separate fatal airplane crashes in the United States killed 51 personnel


Second Lieutenant, 334th Bomb Squadron, 95th Bomb Group, Rapid City Army Air Base,
World War II.

Co-pilot killed in the crash of B-17F Flying Fortress #42-5334 near Ordway, Colorado.

The bomber was attempting to fly under a low ceiling in poor weather when a wingtip collided with terrain at 23:05 hours and the aircraft cartwheeled into the ground and exploded.

All ten personnel aboard perished:
