Gladys Minnie Hildegard Tews was born on March 7, 1920, in Caroline, Wisconsin, to Albert and Anna (Grunewald). She grew up on the family farm in Town of Grant with her sisters: Esther Stuhr, Hildegard Matz, Ella Uecker and Dorothy Pehlke. Three of her siblings, Selma, Emil and Adela, died in childhood. Her mother died when she was two and her father was killed in a dynamiting accident when she was only seven. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline and attended Caroline School.She married Earl William Bartelme On June 4, 1938 Gladys was united in marriage to Earl Bartelme, who preceded her in death in March of 1984. Earl and Gladys farmed for 38 years in the Town of Almon. After Earl's death, Gladys moved to Bonduel. She enjoyed watching the birds and tending to her flowers. Gladys is survived by her children, Richard (Joyce) Bartelme of Green Bay, Suzanne (Ken) Casper of Shawano, Kathryn Bartelme of Wittenberg and Ramona (Ron) Pederson of Bonduel, 1 daughter-in-law, Delores Bartelme of Seymour, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her son William. A private funeral service will be held. Our prayer for you Mom, You were a blessing from up above, giving us strength & unconditional love. March 1945, Marion Advertiser: Clark Hickman has sold his farm in the town of Grant to a Mr. Bartelme of Bowler.She died on November 17, 2014, in Bonduel, Wisconsin, at the age of 94, and was buried in Almon, Wisconsin.
